95 percent of fresh water is ground water. It can be found below the earth's surface that fills the spaces between grains of sediment and rock fractures. In most cases, drilling is used to reach aquifers or rock fractures where ground water is found. Wells are made by drilling into the rock layers using drilling equipment to access water deep beneath the surface.
